I Have Eight Minutes To Write This
Thanks to the new format for the NCAA Tournament it's 5:42 pm and the afternoon session has just ended with the evening session beginning at 5:50 pm. So a brief synopsis of the first half from Thursday:
As my co-host Greg Matzek always says, "the tournament never fails." Today has been no exception. One of the great aspects of the tournament is the matchups of contrasting styles. We saw it in games like Kentucky-Princeton and Old Dominion-Butler (a spine-tingler that started the flurry of activity.) This always leads to great basketball. Then there are the matchups of similar styles like Penn State-Temple, also a hair-raising finisher. Basically, as a fan, you win either way.
With 12 seed Richmond and 13 seed Morehead State winning not only have a few brackets already gone in the toilet but we get the rare 12-13 matchup in the next round. So one of those two teams will likely meet Kansas in 2011's edition of David vs. Goliath.
As I blogged earlier, Clemson seemed to run out of gas in the second half against West Virginia. However, now is not the time for excuses. Plenty of teams that were likely drained after Championship Week now have to muster up the energy to keep it going now that the NCAA Tournament has begun.
Whoops, it's 5:50...back to basketball.
