Packers-Falcons: Three Keys

  • Print

Win Ugly Atlanta rarely makes mistakes so it's very easy for Matt Ryan to get the offense into a rhythm.  The Packers must find a way to disrupt that rhythm and that means playing ugly.  In Atlanta's three losses the Falcons converted just 13 third downs on 42 conversions, good for 31%, well below their season average of 47%.

Turnover Battle Another thing that makes Atlanta so good is the ability to protect the football.  The Falcons are third in the league in turnover margin at +14.  That number was magnified in the regular season meeting between the two teams.  Even though there was only one turnover, it was a big one.  The Aaron Rodgers fumble took points off the board for the Packers and led to an Atlanta touchdown.

Offensive Line Brandon Jackson had nowhere to run in the November 28th matchup, finishing that day with just 26 yards on 10 carries.  But those numbers don't tell the story.  The offensive line created no holes for Jackson and whether it's Jackson or James Starks, daylight will be needed for the Packers running game to get going.

Prediction Falcons 19, Packers 16
