Packers Defensive Playmakers Stat

  • Print

In his book "Patriot Reign" Michael Holley is given unfettered access inside the New England Patriots franchise during the 2002 & 2003 seasons.  At one point in the 2003 offseason Bill Belichick was lamenting over the poor play of cornerback Lawyer Milloy.  Holley noted that New England kept tally of playmaking for defensive players, which included interceptions, forced fumbles and fumble recoveries (Milloy would be released right before the start of the '03 season).

Taking a cue from the book I've compiled a tally of Packers defensive plays made (INTs, forced fumbles and recoveries) and I've tweaked it to include sacks.  Granted, sometimes getting a sack or a turnover is just a by-product of being in the right place at the right time.  There are coverage sacks and passes tipped by receivers into the open arms of a defensive back.  However, the really good defensive guys, like Charles Woodson or Baltimore's Ed Reed, have a knack for being around the ball, being disruptive and making plays.  Here are the playmakers from 2010.

Clay Matthews 16.5

Tramon Williams 10

Charles Woodson 10

Cullen Jenkins 7

BJ Raji 6.5

Desmond Bishop 6

Frank Zombo 6

Nick Collins 6

AJ Hawk 4.5

Brandon Chillar 2

Mike Neal 2

Charlie Peprah 2

Sam Shields 2

Jarrett Bush 2

Erik Walden 2

Jarius Wynn 1.5

CJ Wilson 1

Brady Poppinga 1

Derrick Martin 1

Morgan Burnett 1
