Packers-Vikings: Three Keys

  • Print

Pass Protection This works for both teams.  The Packers have yielded 9 sacks over the last two games as pass protection evaporated against Washington and Miami.  While the Vikings haven't been as tenacious in getting to opposing quarterbacks the threat to pressure Aaron Rodgers is still there.  Meanwhile as we saw twice last year the Packers will need to get in Brett Favre's face and hit him often.

Field Position This absolutely killed the Packers last week against Miami.  Even though the Vikings aren't in 2009 form if Minnesota is allowed to start numerous drives from the 40 or so they will exploit Green Bay's defense.  All eyes will be on special teams as the Packers must do better in punting and kickoff coverage.

Third Down Over the last two weeks the Packers were 5-26 on third down conversions.  It's amazing that in both games the Packers only lost by three.  There has been little to no offensive rhythm and a big part of that is failing to move the chains regularly.  With a defense that is still ailing the Packers will need to win the time of possession battle by converting on third down

Prediction Packers 27, Vikings 24
