  • Barry to coach beyond Rose Bowl?

With each passing day, it becomes more apparent the search for a new head football coach at the University of Wisconsin is a challenge. Some believe that with each passing day, it becomes more and more likely that Athletic Director, Barry Alvarez will assume the duty in 2013, but have a coach-in-waiting take over in 2014.

  • What Bears fans are saying after the loss

The Green Bay Packers earned a 21-13 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday at Soldier Field. With the win, the Packers clinched the NFC North for the second consecutive season, and assured at least one playoff game will be played at Lambeau Field.

  • NBA referee tries to block free throw

Well if this isn't one of the goofier things I've seen in an NBA game. Normally, officials blow the whistle when they see something that warrants a stoppage of play. I've never seen an official play defense.

  • Notes from Mike McCarthy's Wednesday press conference

Green Bay Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy addressed the media at Lambeau Field following Wednesday's practice. Below are some notes from the session.

  • Valet worker swipes Reggie Wayne's Bentley, gets arrested for drunk driving

You remember the scene from Ferris Bueller's Day off, right? A pair of parking lot attendants swipe the classic Ferrari belonging to Cameron's uptight father and joyride through the streets of Chicago.

  • What Lions fans are saying about the loss

The Green Bay Packers earned a 27-20 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday night at a snow-soaked Lambeau Field. With the win, the Packers increased their winning streak over the Lions on Wisconsin soil to 22 straight games.

  • Bielema nearly lets an "On Wisconsin" fly during radio interview

Old habits are hard to break. Former University of Wisconsin Head Coach Bret Bielema found that out on Thursday. As Bielema, the new Head Coach for the University of Arkansas football team, was ending a radio interview with Bruce Murray on Mad Dog Radio, he nearly expressed the phrase, "On Wisconsin".

  • Quick summary of Barry Alvarez's press conference

University of Wisconsin Athletic Director, Barry Alvarez just finished addressing the media inside the Kohl Center in Madison. Wearing a perfect gray suit and striped red tie, Alvarez spoke about the departure of Bret Bielema, and the immediate and near future of the football program.

  • You could be the next Badgers football coach...

...all you have to do is apply on-line! Just two days after Bret Bielema announced he was leaving the University of Wisconsin for the University of Arkansas, THIS job posting hit the UW website.

  • Notes from Mike McCarthy's press conference

Mike McCarthy addressed the media this afternoon at Lambeau Field. Below are some notes from the session.

  • Yount and Sveum go hunting. Yount shoots Sveum. What?

You may recall the scene from the movie Wedding Crashers where Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughan are on a quail hunt. When Wilson pulls the trigger on his rifle, a load of shrapnel strikes Vaughan in the butt and hilarity ensues. That scene came to mind when I read about a similar incident between Brewers Hall of Famer Robin Yount and friend Dale Sveum.

  • Barry Alvarez statement regarding the departure of Bret Bielema

After eight months of searching, the University of Arkansas has found a new head football coach. Bret Bielema will officially be introduced as the man Wednesday afternoon in Fayetteville. Reports are that Bielema will earn $3.2 million per season as part of a six year deal. His contract at Wisconsin paid Bielema approximately $2.6 million per season. University of Wisconsin Athletic Director, Barry Alvarez issued a statement regarding Bielema's departure:

  • Lions, Suh, continue dirty play

The Detroit Lions have quickly become one of the most hated teams in the league. Disdain for the Lions has everything to do with how they go about their business on the field.

  • What Vikings fans are saying after the loss

The Green Bay Packers improved to 8-4 on the season after a 23-14 win over the Minnesota Vikings Sunday at Lambeau Field. The win, combined with a Bears loss, allowed the Packers to move into a first place tie with Chicago atop the NFC North. By virtue of their week 2 win over Chicago, the Packers own the first tie-breaker at the moment.

  • Packers vs. Vikings: Three things I'll be watching for

The Green Bay Packers (7-4) will host the Minnesota Vikings (6-5) in a key NFC north division battle Sunday at Lambeau Field. If the Vikings win, they will pull even with the Packers in the division, but will have a leg up on the tiebreaker situation as it pertains to the playoffs. Below are a few things I'll be watching for:

  • Kid sent home for "Johnny Football" haircut

Texas high school student Christian Chavez was sent home from school the other day for showing support of his favorite college football player. Some ridiculously talented barber shaved the image of Texas A&M QB and Heisman hopeful Johnny Manziel shaved into his head. Much to his surprise, Chavez was sent home for his display of support.

  • Green Bay not considered a potential landing spot for DE Jason Babin

It's not often that a healthy, pro-bowl caliber player hits the waiver wire in week 12 of an NFL season. An exception to the rule was made Tuesday when the Philadelphia Eagles released defensive end Jason Babin. Head Coach Andy Reid said he wanted to get a look at younger players. My sense is that is all coach-speak, and Babin was likely growing frustrated with how awful the Eagles have been this year, and it was affecting his play and attitude.

  • The life of a national play-by-play broadcaster

I often wonder how guys like Wayne Larrivee do their jobs without messing up more often. Consider a guy like Wayne - one of the best in the business - might be called upon to do a BIG Ten football, Packers game, and Monday Night Football game in a three day span. Forget about the travel, study-time and production meetings...just keeping an accurate day planner would be a difficult task.

  • Handicapping the NFC

With five weeks remaining in the NFL's regular season, it's time to take a look at how each respective team stacks up against the competition. The rankings below reflect where each team stands today. Taken into consideration are the relative health and trends of each team.

  • So just what the heck are NFL quarterbacks shouting at the line?

The Wall Street Journal recently published an interesting article focusing on quarterback communication in the NFL. More specifically, the barrage of gibberish signals called at the line to distract the opposing team's defense. As is the case with any skill, some quarterbacks are better at it than others, but the fact remains - from Aaron Rodgers to Blaine Gabbert - that quarterback communication has evolved over time.
