Packers Draft: Datone Jones a role model for kids in Compton, and beyond
With the 26th pick in round one of Thursday's NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers selected UCLA defensive end, Datone Jones. Jones stands nearly 6'4" and weight about 285 pounds. He's big. He's fast. He's all football. Jones is also a product of Compton, California.
With some of his boyhood friends murdered or in jail, Jones chose football (and basketball) as a means to stay out of trouble in an area full of it. After moving on from Compton, to UCLA, and now Green Bay, Jones has not forgotten about the place he grew up in, and the challenges kids face.
