Packers place 2nd round tender on Sam Shields
On the day the 2013-2014 NFL league year officially begins, the Green Bay Packers have placed a second-round tender on restricted free agent cornerback, Sam Shields. This according to profootballtalk.com.
Any team can sign Shields to an offer sheet. If the Packers don't match the offer, they would obtain the second-round pick of the team that Shields ends up on. It's not very often that restricted free agents switch teams, so it's more likely Shields will be back in Green Bay versus somewhere else.
Shields has tremendous speed, and has improved his tackling since his rookie season in 2010. Last season, Shields missed six games due to injury. He played very well in the second half of the season and in the playoffs where he intercepted two passes and returned one for a touchdown.
