When Chicago Bears General Manager Phil Emery announced Monday the decision to fire head coach Lovie Smith, he sited offensive deficiency as one of the reasons why. Many believe the Bears next coach will be more offensive-minded than Smith, and bring the Bears talented but anemic offense into the 21st century.
Haugh also points out the Bears tried unsuccessfully to lure Clements away from Green Bay to fill their offensive coordinator position in 2010. The Packers blocked the move, and the Bears hired Mike Martz.
This season, Clements' first as offensive coordinator, the Packers finished thirteenth in the league in total offense and fifth in the league in scoring at 27.1 points per game. Prior to his role as OC, Clements was the Packers quarterbacks coach from 2006-2011, and the OC for the Buffalo Bills from 2004-2005.
