Big Ten team to serve beer at stadium. Hoo-ray beer!

  • Print

I don't think the University of Minnesota is the first Big Ten school to realize the potential boost in concession profits by offering beer at their football stadium, but they're the first to actually do it.

University regents have voted to allow beer sales at TCF Bank Stadium beginning this fall. The decision is expected to generate between $1 and $1.5 million in annual sales. Minnesota will be the only Big Ten school to offer suds in addition to water and soft drinks.

In a related story, it's expected that area flask sales will go down. I have no scientific data to back that statement up, but I have been to my fair share of Badgers games. Regent Street Liquor in Madison goes through more flasks on Saturday afternoons than they do the entire off-season.

Kudos to Minnesota for giving the fans what they want. If they can't field a good football team, at least there will be beer. How long before that ends up on a T-shirt?
