Packers McCarthy receiving due credit

The secret is out. Mike McCarthy is an outstanding football coach. This is something those who follow the Green Bay Packers have come to realize over time, and the word is starting to spread - perhaps too late.

McCarthy was hired in 2006 with little fanfare. Fans were hoping that Brad Childress, a man with ties to the University of Wisconsin, would be the guy. Childress was whisked away by the Vikings, then kicked out of town after a dismal start to the 2010 season. Sean Payton is another guy who many thought would be a good fit. Payton opted for New Orleans, and won a Super Bowl with the Saints.

We hear all about Belichick in New England, and Rex Ryan in New York, but the one man we never hear about on a national scale is the ever-steady, and hard working McCarthy.

In his latest power rankings, CBSsports.com's Pete Prisco credits McCarthy for being one of the outstanding and underrated minds in the NFL. I couldn't agree more. Nice to see some credit given to the man who has achieved the ultimate goal, and has his team hungry to do it again.

Here's the column.
