Gallardo a possibility for game 6

To ensure baseball will return to Miller Park this season, the Milwaukee Brewers will need to beat the St. Louis Cardinals at least once in St. Louis this week. As it stands, Randy Wolf will get the start game 4 on Thursday, and Zack Greinke game 5 on Friday.

Should the series return to Miller Park for game 6, Shaun Marcum is scheduled to start, but with the possibility that game 6 could be an elimination game, might Yovani Gallardo be an option?  It's a question I asked Brewers General Manager, Doug Melvin this morning.

"We would wait to see what happens, and approach it at that particular time.  That has been some thought there, it's been discussed," Melvin said.

Gallardo has never started a game on three days rest before and threw 95 pitches through 5 innings in game 3.

"He did throw a lot of pitches last night." Melvin continued. "You're at a point where you're taking each day at a time.  Each game is important.  You're trying to win 'em all.  We would probably make that decision once we get to that point."

Marcum has been torched in two post season starts and carries a lofty 12.46 ERA. Each inning that Marcum has thrown since mid September has been a career high. He's been extended further than he ever has been in his career and appears to be out of gas.

To date, Gallardo has been the only Brewers pitcher to hold a team to less than 4 earned runs in a post season game. To get to game 7, the Brewers will likely need to win game 6. If the cliche "one game at a time" carries any weight, it will be Gallardo on the hill in game 6.
