NFL Labor Dealpoints

  • Print

Last night, NFL owners voted 31-0 to approve a 10-year deal that would end the current lockout (the Raiders abstained in voting).

They kicked it to the players for sign off, with all of the core stuff covered off on. But the players felt there were some issues that were not agreed upon through negotiation - it was enough for the players to reject voting. Former Green Bay Packers DE, Vonnie Holiday explained, "'We got tricked, duped, led astray, hoodwinked, bamboozled! Obviously, the players are not happy about the fastball the league tried to sneak by them.

The NFL also laid out a timeline for getting the season started (pending players approval).

Doors can open as early as Saturday, July 23rd. Free agency would also begin July 23rd with the start of training camp as early as Wednesday, July 27th. Also - the league has approved this deal in good faith that the players will recertify as a union on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Their has been a casualty however, the league has decided to cancel the hall of fame game scheduled for August 7th.

Andrew Brandt, from National Football Post, explains the deal points in the proposed new CBA here.
