By now you may be aware that Brewers closer John Axford is the proud father of a baby boy. Axford's wife delivered John Brian Axford at 1:52am this morning. Congrats to the family!
I just left the Manager's briefing with Ron Roenicke before game one of the Brewers/Mets series. Roenicke said Axford could be back with the team as early as game two of the series. All things considered, things timed out pretty well for the Axford's as John was unavailable to pitch in game four of the Brewers' series with the Marlins due to his workload the previous three days.
In the clubhouse, it's not unusual to see the build up of mail after a road trip, but I can honestly say I've never witnessed a mini baby shower. Many of the players, especially bullpen guys, piled baby gifts on Axford's chair for him to find when he returns to the team.
There were some typical new-baby-type gifts, appropriately packaged inside a child like bags. Then there was the gift from Kameron Loe...a nice bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label Whiskey. Nice!
