NFL LOCKOUT: It was a major win for the players yesterday. Judge Susan Nelson sided with the players and ordered an end to the lockout. In a concise 89 page document, Nelson said the work stoppage was causing irreparable harm to the players. As a counter, The NFL has filed a notice of appeal questioning the jurisdiction of Nelson's ruling. The appeal will be heard by the 8th circuit court in St. Louis. The league also wants Nelson to freeze her ruling until the appeal process works itself out. A notice went out to all the players last night explaining they are legally permitted to show up at team facilities today if they choose, but the NFL Management Council gave all 32 teams certain stipulations for allowing players into their buildings today. Sources explained to ESPN's Adam Schefter that teams were told not to open their weight rooms or engage in any contract discussions. If the appeals court sides with the players - there is still the issue of a collective bargaining agreement - there needs to be a set of rules in place for things like free agency and so on....
League Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote a sincere and well-crafted response to the ruling for the Wall Street Journal this morning. The piece paints a picture for what the NFL could look like if the players get their way...it's not a pretty picture.
