NFL Draft: Best and Worst Picks in Franchise History
Are you ready for some football!?
NFL junkies will get their fix this week with three more days of mock drafts, followed by three days of draft coverage. The Green Bay Packers will enter the draft with 9 picks and of f the 58 players selected by Thompson since 2005, 33 are still on the roster.
But not every pick works out. I'm sure Thompson wasn't expecting Justin Harrell and Brian Brohm to flop given they were taken in the first and second round respectively -- conversley, I'm not sure he expected guys like Demond Bishop (6th round) and CJ Wilson (7th round) to have the positive impact they have had given their draft position.
Yahoo sports did a deep dive into he draft annals and came up with the BEST and WORST draft selections in franchise history for each NFL team. Check out the link here.
If you're a Packers fan, you can probably guess who falls into the WORST category without too much thought - in fact "Tony Mandarich" could be it's own category...BEST, WORST, TONY MANDARICH. One might argue however, that players such as Jamal Reynolds and Ahmad Carroll belong in the Mandarich category...I support that notion.
But who represents the BEST draft choice in the history of the NFL's most storied franchise? Contemplate these names: Forrest Gregg, Jerry Kramer, Paul Hornung, Ray Nitschke, Herb Adderley, Aaron Rodgers. Granted, Rodgers has an uphill battle against curent hall of famers, but he is a Super Bowl MVP who has done what very few have - successfully replaced a legend.
Let the debate begin!
The NFL will commence on Thursday night in New York City. Round one will begin at 7:00pm CST on Thursday, rounds 2 and 3 will held in prime time on Friday starting at 5:00pm CST, while rounds 4-7 will take place on Saturday morning.
