Many of us are aware of the "Madden Curse". The stories of how players who grace the cover of the worlds most popular video game suddenly fall from grace is remarkable.
Why, oh why, would ESPN and EA Sports partner on a contest allowing fans to vote on the next cover athlete?
Here's a look back at some of the cursed, followed by a link that will take you to the page where you can vote on the 2012 cover athlete.
2001 - EDDIE GEORGE: Never averaged more than 3.3 yards per carry after his cover gracing appearance.
2002 - DAUNTE CUPLPEPPER: Threw a career high 23 interceptions and broke the record for most fumbles by a QB. It wasn't until 2005 that he blew out both knees.
2004 - MICHAEL VICK: Broke his leg in a pre-season game and missed 12 regular season games.
2006 - DONOVAN McNABB: Tore his ACL and suffered a sports hermia in the first game of the season.
2007 - SHAUN ALEXANDER: Suffered a foot injury and was never the same after a record breaking 2006 season. Alexander really irritated fantasy football owners that season.
2009 - BRETT FAVRE: Lead the league in interceptions with 22 in his only season with the Jets.
2010 - LARRY FITZGERALD and TROY POLAMALU: Fitz started all 16 games, but Polamalu missed 4 games after spraining his MCL in the season opener.
