Alternate Names For BIG TEN Divisions. What They Didn't Share.

  • Print

It's official! When the Big Ten Conference breaks down in to divisions for football in 2011, the Wisconsin Badgers will join Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, and Purdue in the Leaders Division.

Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Northwestern will comprise the Legends Division.

Oh to be a fly on the wall in the meetings leading up to Commissioner Delaney's announcement Monday morning. It got me to thinking what some of the other potential names being bantered around were.

Here's a fictitious glimpse at the cutting room floor:

  • "Wheat" and "Barley"
  • "Joe" and "Pa"
  • "Charissa" and "Thompson"
  • "I'm a MAC" and "I'm a PC"
  • "Captain" and "Jack"
  • "Revenue" and "Bonanza"
  • "Rough" and "Tumble"
  • "BCS Here We Come" and "Hoping for the Capital One Bowl"
  • "Turn Your Head" and "Cough"
  • "Black" and "Blue"
  • "Jets" and "Sharks"
  • "Denogginizer" and "Son of Dad" (sort of a catch-all)
  • "Longhornless" and "Irishless"
  • "Six Plus Six" and "Equals Ten"
  • "Larry" and "Darryl"  (???)
  • "(INSERT CORPORATE SPONSOR NAME #1)" and "(INSERT CORPORATE SPONSOR NAME #2)"
