Bet You Won't See THIS On The Food Network...
Guys get advice from barbers...they usually don't come home with recipes.
I did, and I want to pass it on to you.
My tonsorial specialist, Wally of "Your Father's Mustache" in Hales Corners, told me about his experience with "The Polish Luau" which a friend of his pulled off the other day up in Sheboygan County. Wally, who knows of Polish since his last name ends in "ski", wondered if I'd ever heard of one, what with me being from the area.
My blank stare told him "no."
Wally's Polish Luau involves a new, galvanized garbage can with beer and water at the bottom, a new Weber grill gate wedged over the mixture. Then comes a cloth bag filled with potatoes, onions and carrots. The final layer: sausage of all kinds, and then the lid. The can goes over a wood fire, cooked for an undetermined amount of time. The finished product is supposedly something to die for--the water and beer steam-bathing the contents. Beer--it's not just for drinking any more.
I'm already getting some variations of the recipe, but have yet to find anyone who's come through with what Wally described. I'll post what I've received later this morning, and if you have a Polish Luau formula you'd like to share, send it to email@example.com.
