Home Improvement Shows To See, Now That Paige Davis Is Doing "Sweet Charity"
It was our Saturday night religion.
Dad made popcorn.
The kids got in their p-j's.
Mom cracked open a bottle of wine.
And, we watched "Trading Spaces".
There'd been nothing like it on cable--a blend of reality competition with nifty home ideas with the vague sexuality of co-host Paige Davis tossed in for the guys. Nothing vague about HER sexuality, let me say: let's just say she had a way with an innocent pair of jeans and a well-fitting golf shirt, enough to keep Pops here interested when the talk turned to drywall.
Like all good things, "Trading Spaces" morphed into many mutations--"Trading Spaces Kids", "Trading Spaces/Illegal Immigrants", all without Paige who'd left the show under somewhat mysterious circumstances. It lost it's traction in the Mueller household, and the arrival of driver's licenses/girlfriends/boyfriends help hasten it's demise as a weekend staple.
The genre grinds on, though, as Slate magazine points out. "Man Cave" with Tony Seragusa sounds vaguely interesting, if only for the fact that it borrows my nickname for my basement space.
