The Cold Filtered Ramblings of Gene Mueller

"Thriller" at 30

  • Print

Did anyone see it coming?

"Thriller" came out 30 years ago today--November 30, 1982--putting Michael Jackson at the center of the pop culture universe.   Along the way, he forever changed MTV, AM/FM radio, the music industry, and the way we consume tunes, both on the air and on the tube.

The world never heard songs like "Billie Jean" before.   It had never seen a video like "Thriller".

Three decades later, Jackson's work is still being lauded, hailed, analyzed, dissected, and studied.

The rest of the world?   They just keep listening.
