The Cold Filtered Ramblings of Gene Mueller

The New York Times eats a little crow?

  • Print

You read in a previous blog about the tussle between the country's newspaper of record and one of the nation's best-known cable TV chefs.

Now, the rest of the story.

A New York Times food critic slammed Guy Fieri's new Times Square restaurant this week.  Slammed isn't really the right adjective.  Scorched works better.  No, maybe I should go with nuked.   How's about trundled?

You get the idea.

Fieri took to the "Today" show one morning to defend his joint, and now it's up to the dining public to decide if the place will remain open.   A bad review can kill a restaurant.   One as scathing as the one Fieri got would certainly seem lethal enough to do just that.   Put it in the Times and, well, you've just been snapped in front of the whole country.

Unless, of course, that same paper takes some of it's advertisers to your freshly-panned place for dinner before the ink is barely dry.

Bon appetit?
