Remember when baseball went back to the future?
I'm a freak about sports uniforms. Old ones remind me of my youth. New ones can invigorate a franchise and certainly boost sales in team shops.
Much is being made about Tampa's Turn Back The Clock duds, to be worn sometime next month. The Rays are crankin' it back to 1979...
Neat, except for the fact the Rays weren't around in '79. Details, details. Management and fans know that, but the front office is also smart enough to know that, if you can't sell REAL retro jerseys you can invent your own past and peddle it to die-hards. I'm guessing these bad boys will fly off the shelf, being just garish enough to be...cool.
Fans might remember MLB's future promotion of 1999 that had teams wearing what they thought their uni's would look like down the road. Turn Ahead The Clock, if you will.
This is what the Brewers were sporting at times that summer.
I have seen the future, and it apparently comes without sleeves. I actually own one of these, but I've only worn it once. The cap was cool, though, and is one I think they could still use/sell today.
Swanky, ain't it?
Rust doesn't sleep, and neither do MLB's marketing overlords.
