The pride of Port Washington is gone.
Former Packers team photographer Vernon Biever died this week at the age of 87. He's in the franchise's hall of fame, having been nominated by Bart Starr himself.
Biever did his job for only the privilege of a field pass for years and even paid his way to road games--something that continued until he was given a seat on team charters after the Lombardi years. It wasn't a full-time job--the Journal/Sentinel obit points out that Biever owned a store in Port Washington.
Jesse Garcia interviewed Biever and his sons a few years ago, asking Biever about his favorite photos after more than a half century on the Packers beat.
