This time around, we weren't subject to the full frontal starry eyed messianic gush of four years ago, but the political media found other ways to beclown itself again this cycle.

I'm already on record saying that I think Mitt Romney will win both the popular and electoral votes for three reasons: 1. the economy, 2. his edge among independents and 3. turnout of an enthusiastic, motivated conservative base. This analysis seems to be shared by others, including Michael Barone, Jay Cost, and George Will. Here are two more predictions, which I chose because, well, I completely agree. If we're wrong, we're all going down together!

I wanted to write this piece before the election, so that it won't look like rationalization in the event of an Obama victory. But this seems like an overlooked story:

UPDATED Yes, I know that I have repeatedly derided the importance of newspaper endorsements. So why am I linking to two three of them this morning? Because they both come from papers that backed Obama four years and are now making the case for changing directions. Both make compelling cases for dumping Obama in the heart of Obama country. Monday morning should be, um, interesting at both shops.

This has tended to get lost in the hyper-focus on the presidential race, but Republican control of the House of representatives is a near certainty, and Wisconsin's two Republican freshman -- Reid Ribble and Sean Duffy -- are favored to hold their seats. Both of them won seats that were won by Democrats in the Obama wave of 2008 and should have been hyper-vulnerable in what was supposed to be the second Obama wave in 2012.

I've long regarded Michael Barone as the Gold Standard of political analysis; his knowledge is so encyclopedic that he actually edited the Almanac of American Politics.

Via the Weekly Standard: Senator Ron Johnson joins three other senators --Senators John McCain (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) -- in writing a tough letter to the president over his handling of Benghazi. You can read the full letter at this link, but here is the money shot.

Grim, but inevitable. We're starting to get a glimpse of what Obamacare is going to mean for employees around here. Of course, the president promised us that if we like our insurance we could keep it. If voters believed him, many of them are in for a rude shock. Bonus here: this suggests that the fiscal impact of Obamacare will be much worse than projected as far more businesses make the decision to off-load the costs onto the taxpayers.

The entire attack on the voter fraud billboards and the philanthropist who paid for them boils down to the charge that they were "racist" because they were only placed in central cities. But that charge is factually false, although the readers of yesterday's dead tree version of the newspaper were not told that. And the interesting question is is: why?

I must admit i really like these ads, even though I am obviously not the target demograhic. The independent group behind them has reportedly made a major buy in swing states... including Wisconsin, so you may be seeing these soon.

The story of the gay Republican who says he was beaten turns out to be a total hoax. Apologies won't cover this one; he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Kyle Wood's lies were elaborate, repeated, and especially malicious. The collateral damage will be considerable.

More evidence that the Ryan-will-scare-granny punditry was a tad premature. The new Pew poll shows that Romney is winning voters 65 and older by 19 points.
