SOME BARRETT FLASHBACKS

A few awkward items from the Tom Barrett Way Back Machine. Yesterday he inistsed he was "always" for rebuilding the Zoo Interchange. I suppose that depends on the maning of the word "always." And "for/"

First, this press release:

Milwaukee Mayor Barrett: Thanks Governor for Zoo Interchange Veto
7/21/2005

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett issued the following statement regarding Governor Doyle’s partial veto of the Zoo Interchange financing:

“Governor Doyle took the appropriate action in vetoing the Legislature’s $38 million appropriation for the Zoo Interchange. The funding was excessive and the message it sent, divisive. I thank Governor Doyle for recognizing that Milwaukee-Waukesha regional cooperation is not a one-way street.”

**

Then this October 20006 article from the Business Journal... entitled “City to fight Zoo Interchange timetable” :

Milwaukee city officials, citing environmental concerns, want to put the brakes on the fast-track schedule for reconstructing the Zoo Interchange. Patrick Curley, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's chief of staff, is pushing the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to complete a full environmental impact study of the project instead of an abbreviated environmental assessment.”

**

And this this letter from James Elliot, Chairman of the Milwaukee County Research Park Corporation, reflecting  the frustration of the local business community saying  - “On behalf of several business leaders in Southeastern Wisconsin we are writing to express our concern over your Chief of Staff Patrick Curley’s vow to have the City of Milwaukee Work to delay the modernization of the zoo interchange in a recent Business Journal article.”

  1. I always thought Milwaukee Waukesha cooperation was a one-way street just as long as Waukesha does what Milwaukee wants. Sort of like Obama's version of bipartisanship.
  2. Barrett believes: "If you build it, they will leave."
  3. The zoo train line could be expanded to move commuters between the north and south sides now serverd by the 45 bridge. Match that progressive thinking!
  4. Who cares,I am sure people would love to fix it,but I am sure the people that fix it,would like to get paid. The fund set aside for problems like this is gone.Money was used for other reasons.I know you don't drive it,but it is the one of the most driven piece of highway in the state,so when leadership in this state screws up,it should be pointed out.Barrett is not telling the truth, and that just makes it worse.Come clean and move on.
