,,,for Mark Neumann. Wispolitics is reporting:

Longtime Republican heavyweight Jim Klauser is no longer backing Mark Neumann's guv campaign and has decided to instead support Walker, according to a GOP source with knowledge of the decision.

Klauser's wife, Shirley, has been serving as Neumann's campaign treasurer. But she's leaving as well, the source said.

Neumann's campaign has been flailing and failing to gain any traction, as Walker has been locking up the grassroots.  Initially, Klauser's backing gave him some credibility, but so far Neumann has shown no sign of being able to capitalize. His defection at this stage is a potentially devastating blow.

The over under now:

Does Neumann stay in the race past January 1?

  1. Mark, for the sake of the party graciously step out and instead use your money to go after Rusty. Please? We'll understand.
  2. I'd have supported him all the way against Kohl or Feingold. Now I question his political instincts.
  3. You mean "Very Good Omen". He needs to get out of this race, the sooner the better. The stars are aligned for Walker. He is a great candidate and easily the GOP's best chance for victory in '10. For the life of me I can't understand why Neumann didn't challenge Feingold. Last I checked senator is one hell of a plum gig... Once again I request of Mr. Neumann to step aside. Won't make you a quitter, won't make you a failure (Walker stepped aside in '08), just get out already..
