Who would Jim Doyle Free?

Voting around 3 a.m. (based on the timing of this blog post) Democrats approved his plan to gut truth in sentencing and let hundreds of convicted felons loose from state prisons. Here's how it would work:

*An inmate who is sentenced for a misdemeanor or for a Class F to Class I felony that is not a violent offense may earn one day out of confinement for every two days served.

*High Risk or Violent Class F to Class I Felonies, and Class C to Class E Felonies.  Specify that certain inmates who are ineligible under the above provision may earn one day out of confinement for every three days served.

*An inmate sentenced to a Class C to Class E felony may earn one day out of confinement for every 5.7 days served.

Here is the list of Felonies and Misdemeanors.  Do you think the average law-abiding person wants people who commit these crimes out on the street early?

  1. Will Michael McGee, Jr. get a Jim Doyle "get out of Jail Free" card?
  2. So we save on costs that would have been there by keeping these felons in prison. However, I doubt that will offset the costs needed to track these felons and pay for additional officers needed for calls and patrols thanks to the felons that will in most cases commit crimes again. Most importantly there is the intangible cost of insecurity and loss of piece of mind and safety by the law abiding citizens of Wisconsin. Sullivan, Plale, Carpenter!
  3. In the big piture in Doyleland. Does not this put people to work stealing, killing, policing and more work for the
lawyers. It's the circle of life!
  4. So we return the prison system to the pre 1998 policy of time off for good behavior. We expand community corrections and cut prison costs. This is what you have to do in tough economic times. Instead, what the GOP does is try to scare people into believing their will be murderers and rapists running free (there won't) so they can try to win a few votes back to their aging, withering party. Your scare tactics have become tired. You wanted cuts in the budget...this makes the most sense.
