YOU'LL HAVE CHARLIE SYKES TO KICK AROUND A LOT LONGER

I'll have more to say about this Thursday.

The station is announcing today that I have signed a long term deal to stay at WTMJ -- I think it's a pretty strong sign that we both think talk radio has a strong future here in Milwaukee. Suffice it to say that I am delighted and gratified. Congratulations as well to JonathanGreen, who is also sticking around to anchor the biggest stick in the state.

Here are some excerpts from the release that just went out:

Milwaukee -- Newsradio 620 WTMJ announced today that new agreements have been signed with Jonathan Green, host of the station’s afternoon news and entertainment “The Green House” program, and midday talk host Charlie Sykes.

Both are long-time veterans of Milwaukee ’s #1-ranked station...

"Charlie provides our audience with an important forum for local discussion of news and current events. His show has become ‘appointment radio’ for thousands of southeastern Wisconsin listeners and I’m happy we’ll be continuing to offer his program in the coming years,” Wexler added.

“The agreement takes me beyond a normal retirement date for me,” said Green, who will celebrate his fortieth year in Milwaukee radio this June, most of them with WTMJ-AM. “Most companies that were around back then don’t even exist anymore. It says something to be working for a company that isn’t run by people far removed from the communities they’re in.

“I’m glad they want to keep me,” he joked.

“The length of this deal shows that I’m in for the long haul and I appreciate WTMJ’s willingness to make this sort of long-term commitment,” said Sykes, who joined the station in 1992. In addition to hosting “Midday with Charlie Sykes” each weekday from 8:30 a.m. to noon, he has a weekly television show, “Sunday Insight with Charlie Sykes,” on TODAY’S TMJ4. “The next few years are going to be fascinating for talk radio and I’m glad I’m going to be behind the microphone to talk about them.”

  1. Why you and your program is so disgusting. Do you ever wonder why you don't get many calls from people who disagree with you? Each time anyone does try all you ever do is talk over them, cut them off, and then make degrading remarks about the person.
