The Godfather Comes to Town

Talk about "out of town" money, Mayor Barrett effectively kicks off his campaign for governor by bringing in the mayor of Chicago, the Godfather, Rahm Emanuel. Interesting choice. Also, interesting report from Media Trackers that Rahm and Tom are drawing protests from our "Occupy" friends.

A coalition of Left-wing activist groups, primarily composed of “Occupy” protesters from Milwaukee and Chicago, intend to protest the arrival of Mayor Emanuel at Barrett’s fundraiser. In an event titled “Protest Rahm’s Attack on the 99%,” a coalition of “Occupy” demonstrators will protest “Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Agenda Of The 1%” which they say includes:

  • Revoke rights to protest NATO in Chicago
  • Deploy spy drones over anti-NATO rallies
  • Close half the mental health clinics in the city
  • Give millions to corporate sponsors without oversight
  • Union Busting like Walker

In addition to Emanuel, the “Occupiers” accuse Mayor Tom Barrett of union busting and embracing policies similar to Emanuel.

“Instead of protecting public sector workers in Milwaukee, Mayor Barrett chose to utilize Governor Walker’s rights stripping legislation of Wisconsin Act 10.

…The politics and policies of Barrett and Emanuel, the record shows, also have similarities.

If Tom Barrett were to run for Governor, whose Governor would he be?

His policies, which break similar to Emanuel’s; as well as Barrett’s campaign donors, do not bode well for Barrett as a progressive candidate reflective of the new Wisconsin Movement.”

Mayor Barrett, who ran against Scott Walker in 2010, did utilize the tools of the collective bargaining reforms and managed to save the city of Milwaukee a total of $25 million in pension and healthcare concessions. Nevertheless, the Milwaukee mayor has been a tough critic of Walker, signing a recall petition and now is on the verge of running against Walker in a rematch.
