Mark Neumann is signaling very clearly that he is prepared to take on Tommy Thompson is a race for U.S. Senate. Here is the release:
WAUKESHA, Wis. – August 22, 2011 - Two new polls released last week show that Waukesha business owner and former Republican Congressman Mark Neumann is ideally positioned to be the GOP nominee for retiring U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl’s seat next year and already leads Democrat Tammy Baldwin in a potential general election matchup. Neumann today announced that a final decision on the U.S. Senate race will come “very, very soon.”
"I'm looking to run because our $14 trillion debt is destroying our country. This debt isn't just about numbers too big to understand, it's about ending the American Dream. And not in 50 years as someone else’s problem, but soon,” Neumann stated. “We see it already in our credit rating downgrade. That won't be the last one without getting the debt under control. Poor credit ratings mean high interest rates mean high unemployment, lower housing values, and a transformed America that no one has seen in our lifetimes. That's why I'm serious about running, because I'm afraid my children and grandchildren aren't going to have the opportunities I’ve had - and it’s coming sooner than we think.
“I am gratified by the calls and support I have been getting from across Wisconsin and conservative leaders from around the country,” Neumann continued. “Now that Wisconsin Republicans have won in the recall elections and remain in the majority in the state Legislature, it’s time to make a final decision on the U.S. Senate race. Russ Feingold already decided to pass on the race, and a poll last week already shows me leading Tammy Baldwin by four percent. To say I’m encouraged would be an understatement. A final decision will come very, very soon.”
