Despite predictions of the apocalypse, the Walker budget actually seems to be working. In contrast, let's look at other states. The guv's office points out:

In other states:

Minnesota’s government is shutdown

Illinois enacted a budget that raised personal income tax 67% and corporate taxes 46%, and according to Rueters, “Illinois' widening structural deficit, huge unfunded pension liability, inability to pay its bills on time, cascading bond ratings and propensity to borrow its way out of financial problems have made the state a major worry...”

Connecticut proposed closing its budget gap by laying off 5,500 public employees and cutting funding to municipalities by $54 million in each of the next two years,0,2512168.story

California sent 19,000 teachers layoff notices

Washington State is engaging in public employee layoffs

In Pennsylvania, Philadelphia is looking at more than 1,000 teacher layoffs

In New York, without reforms similar to those in Wisconsin’s 2011-13 budget, their government will have to layoff 9,800 public employees
