Abele moved to Milwaukee from Boston about nine years ago after earning his bachelor's degree in English from Lawrence University, Appleton.
Abele is a philanthropist with an agenda, a left-leaning one at that.
He relishes being a conservative's worst nightmare a liberal with wealth. During the most recent elections, Abele contributed to more than 20 Democratic candidates nationwide. He and his wife, Dacy, gave Gov.-elect Jim Doyle $20,000. He also served on Doyle's campaign finance committee.
Abele's plans to unleash his aggressive attitude on the business of philanthropy after his family's foundation, the Argosy Foundation, starts operating from Milwaukee next year. Abele will become chairman of the foundation and promises to dwarf the Lynde & Harry Bradley Foundation, the Milwaukee area's most prominent foundation, within five or six years....
Abele plans to support liberal causes and establish a Washington, D.C., office to become a national player.
