Before we break out the tiny violins for the public employee unions, check out this story from the MacIver Institute.

For example, Marty Beil, executive director of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME )Council 24 SEPAC, made $161,847 in 2008 according to the organization’s Form 990. That’s considerably more than the $144,423 a year Scott Walker makes as Wisconsin’s Governor.

Despite this, Beil has repeatedly attempted to portray Walker as a member of  some upper class elite.  In December, Beil said Walker’s treatment of state employees was like “the plantation owner talking to the slaves.”

“We’ve moved in Walker’s mentality from public service to public servitude,” Beil said....

In responding to that speech Kennedy said, “Public employees will continue to sacrifice to help with budget woes, but our sacrifices have already been considerable – we are now doing more with less than any time in recent history.”

Kennedy drew a salary of $129,402 in 2008, according to the organization’s tax documents.

  1. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww poor freakin babies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Beil also called certain legislators "whores" following the defeat of the state employee contracts. I don't know if their 'whores', but Marty Beil certainly is a pimp.
  3. You want to cut wages and benefits of public employees during a recession...that's fair enough, but please define "public employee".

Is a public employee someone whose entire salary is paid by taxes, or would you also consider someone who works for a "private" enterprise that receives a decent amount of Federal and State subsidies a public employee, if only partly?

Careful there, Charlie. You wouldn't want to go so far as to cut your own wages and benefits, would you? I'm sure that being a radio and media outlet, WTMJ and its parent company are receiving plenty of Federal subsidies and tax breaks. Should we be outraged at your salary and benefits, too, part of which I'm paying for?

I'll be honest..I don't get unions, and I don't get why people like them. They are as bad as the government, and as hard to get rid of, too. That said, I also don't get people who work for companies that receive federal subsidies who turn around and gripe about all the taxpayer dollars being wasted on the high wages and benefits of "public employees". Isn't that sort of lkike griping about yourself?
  4. Sounds like the pot calling the Kettle black. Wow these people think they really earn this money. How is it that the public has not started ousting these over paid, ungreatful lumps out of their jobs.

OH THAT'S RIGHT THE UNION PROTECTION!!!!!!

Guess protection comes with huge cost.
