Email from Governor-elect Scott Walker....

Charlie,

Hard to believe that it has been nearly nine years since I called up your show and said I'd run against Tom Ament. It was just after he said he'd file a lawsuit against the citizens who collected the recall signatures.

Many pundits saw anger in the recall. I saw hope. Hope that standing up - neighbor by neighbor - we could take our government back. And take it back we did.

We capped off the pension benefits and changed the debate over property taxes (Ament and the County Board had fought over a nearly 6% increase).

We went from just over 5 million passengers per year at the airport to more than 9 million this year. All while stopping the ridiculous blue shirt from being put up on the side of the parking garage.

We won the Gold Medal for the BEST parks system in the country. All while showing that spending more money on more government employees isn't always the path to success.

We worked with the City of Wauwatosa and brought thousands of jobs to the county research park. Soon, there will be a new school of engineering there too.

We saved the public museum and opened up a wonderful view of the courthouse by taking down the ugly parking garage over I-43.

We transformed Bradford Beach and the rest of the lakefront, rebuilt the zoo and illuminated the Domes. We improved the quality of life in our county.

We reduced the amount of outstanding debt, reduced the size of the workforce and reduced the operating budget.

We were good stewards of the taxpayers' dollars.

Who would have thought this was all possible way back in 2002?

Scott
