Joined WTMJ: November 2012
After having been gone for nearly 13 years, Doug Russell re-joined the WTMJ sports team in 2012.
Doug first joined the WTMJ sports team in April 1996 after radio stints in Ripon, Oshkosh, and Fond du Lac. After leaving Radio City in March 2000, Doug spent seven years in national syndication at Sporting News Radio; then it was back to Milwaukee to host a local morning show, before returning to the national scene with Yahoo! Sports Radio. From there, when the chance to come home to WTMJ presented itself, Doug took it.
A 1990 graduate of Waukesha North and 1995 graduate of UW-Oshkosh, Doug has a wide and varied sports media background. In addition to appearances on TODAY’S TMJ4, he has been seen locally on FOX 6 (WITI), CBS 58 (WDJT), WMLW, and Time Warner Cable Sportschannel.
An Emmy nominee and regional Edward R. Murrow Award winner, among the events Doug has covered include five Super Bowls, the Final Four, the World Series, The Masters, several PGA Championships, Rose Bowls, MLB All-Star Games and Kentucky Derbys; the Davis Cup, and the US Open.
In addition to his network experience, Doug has had fill-in local radio stints in New York (WSNR), Los Angeles (KMPC), Chicago (WCSN), Jacksonville (WNNR), and Houston (KGOW). He is also an award-winning sportswriter who has been featured in The Sporting News, Milwaukee Magazine, Inside Wisconsin Sports, OnMilwaukee.com, and Brewers GameDay.
Doug has also handled public address duties for the Arena Football League’s Milwaukee Mustangs, as well as various sports at Marquette University and UW-Oshkosh.
He and his wife, Erika, reside in Pewaukee.
