Emmy-winning journalist, John Mercure brings more than 20 years of reporting and anchoring experience to his position at NEWSRADIO 620 WTMJ. John joined the Journal Broadcast group in 1999. For ten years he was an anchor and investigative reporter for TODAYS TMJ4. John specializes in long format interviews and investigative projects. He is very excited to move down the hall as host of Wisconsin’s Afternoon News with John Mercure.
John grew up in the Chicago area, but has strong ties to Milwaukee. Much of his family is from Southeastern Wisconsin, and John's grandparents have Packers season tickets.
Before coming to Milwaukee, John spent more than three years in Green Bay where he anchored the evening news for WLUK-TV. John has also worked in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Rockford, Illinois, and LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
His strong skills and professionalism are evident from the recognition he has received for his work, including five Emmy awards, an Edward R. Murrow award and numerous awards from the Radio and Television News Directors Association, the Wisconsin Broadcaster's Association, the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Milwaukee Press Club, and the Northwest Broadcast News Association. John has also been nominated for seven other Emmys.
John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mass communications, with a minor in political science from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois.
When he's not interviewing a newsmaker or investigating a great story, John looks forward to spending time with his wife, Michelle and their college aged twins, Kierra and Aimee. The family enjoys travel. Favorite spots are Ireland, Grand Cayman, Belize, and any warm beach where a cruise ship drops anchor.
